About

About Me:

My passion is exploring and advancing human flourishing.

In my personal and professional life, I strive to synthesize diverse disciplines—like philosophy, public policy, affective and developmental neuroscience and psychology, education and human development—to investigate how individuals, communities, and cultures can flourish. I believe these disciplines provide a first-principles framework upon which to build a cross-ideological political and cultural movement necessary to secure our collective survival and flourishing.

My goal is to integrate insights from these disciplines on how our brains guide and shape our behavior—in the context of our social and emotional feeling processes, which are shared universally at the level of biology—into existing models for promoting meaning, purpose, belonging, and flourishing. Doing so will, with any luck, provide a coherent strategy for addressing the daunting issues of the twenty-first century, whether in democracy, education, economic inequality, mental health, or any number of other issue areas.

In my daily life, I am a cautious optimist with a passion for contributing to social progress, through writing, reading, activism, and community-building. I am also an enthusiast with a love of music, film, food, art, sports, and nature.

Novus Think Tank:

Novus Think Tank is a home base for creative problem-solvers at USC. Created by students, for students, Novus unites issues-oriented undergraduates around a shared narrative of making an impact and moving culture. I served as Novus' co-president from August 2017 to August 2019, and in that time I created the following documents:

Novus External Constitution: A one-page articulation of why Novus exists and what Novus does.

Novus Community Handbook: a living document embodying Novus' history, projects, and organizational culture.

Novus' Narrative Insights Committee Spring 2019 Publication: A glimpse into what my Novus committee accomplished over the course of a semester.

Novus Think Tank 2018-2019 Report: A brief summary of what Novus accomplished throughout the 2018-2019 academic year.

Secular Student Fellowship (SSF):

The Secular Student Fellowship is a friendly community of USC students who look to borrow the best practices of diverse spiritual and religious disciplines, while exploring, engaging with, and affirming secular humanist values. Ours is a story of using science, compassion, and creativity to ask the perennial human questions, live better lives, and build joyful and vibrant relationships. I co-led SSF from May 2017 to December 2019.
